Amityville Horror House Goes On Sale For $850,000

At first glance this suburban property looks rather idyllic however, when you learn that it’s actually a horror house where a mass murder took place, it suddenly seems a lot less appealing.

108 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York became the scene of the ‘Amityville Horror’ killings back in 1974 and now the current owner has put it back on the market with a generous $850,000 price tag.

However, the real estate agents have conveniently forgot to mention this tiny detail and instead described it as a ‘stately center hall colonial’ with a large boat house.

Aside from its disturbing history, potential buyers will get a five-bedroom, four-bathroom house with a formal dining room and a two-car garage if they chose to take on this property.

The murders that made the house famous occurred on November 13, 1974, and left killer Ronald DeFeo’s mother, father, and four siblings dead. Police found them shot in their beds.

DeFeo later said voices in the house made him kill his family, and his lawyers used that claim in a failed insanity defense.

He was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences and is currently serving time at the Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York, with a parole hearing scheduled for June 2017, the New York Daily News reported.

Worryingly, there have been further claims of paranormal activity in the house since the DeFeo’s lived there.

A family that moved into the house after the murders claimed mysterious events occurred that included strange odors, inexplicable sounds, and a chilling cold that defied the warm glow of a fireplace.

Their spooky tales inspired the 1977 book ‘The Amityville Horrors,’ which became a film in 1979.

Broker Jerry O’Neil told the Daily News he is aware of the house’s history, but that he nevertheless thinks ‘it is a beautiful home.’

He said locals refer to the claims of paranormal activity in the house as the ‘Amityville hoax.’

‘The only horror about this house was that a family was murdered,’ he said.

However, we can’t deny that these rumours would be enough leave us running for the hills and they will have a serious task on their hands selling this mysterious house.
